The White Pole Road is the original dirt road that began in the towns of Dexter, Stuart, Menlo, Casey, and Adair, Iowa, in the early 1900s.
It went on to become the state's first certified state route, stretching from Davenport to Council Bluffs.
As a tribute to that history, more than 700 poles have been repainted white along the 26-mile original byway that runs parallel to Interstate 80 between exits 76 and 100, west of Des Moines. This Route 66-like diversion offers travelers a rural Iowa experience with interesting sites, friendly people, and beautiful countryside.
As you browse through this book of stunning current and historical photographs and recollections by local residents, we hope you'll be inspired to get off the interstate and have an adventure.
128 black and white pages, 9.5" x 12", hard cover.
